Write and print a prescription
Add medicines to a consultation, set advice and a review date, and print a branded A5 prescription.
Updated 2026-10-02
Prescriptions are written on the consultation record, so open the record first (see Record a consultation with SOAP notes).
Who can do this: Owner, Admin, Manager and Veterinarian can write and edit prescriptions. Anyone with "View medical records", including Front desk, can print them. Only Owner, Admin and Manager can delete them.
Write a prescription
- 1On the record page, scroll to Prescriptions and find the New prescription box.
- 2Optionally pick the medicine from From pharmacy (optional). This list shows inventory products marked as medicines, and fills in the drug name for you.
- 3Enter the Drug (required), Strength, Dose, Frequency (start typing for suggestions like "BID (twice daily)"), Route (oral, topical, SC, IM, IV and more), Duration, Qty and Notes.
- 4Click Add medicine for more rows (up to 30). Use the remove button to delete a row.
- 5Add Advice (diet, rest, when to come back) and an optional Follow-up on date.
- 6Click Create prescription.
The prescription appears in the list with its date and a yellow follow-up badge if you set one.
Edit or delete
- Click Edit to change it, then Save prescription.
- Click Delete and confirm. This can't be undone. The button only shows for Owner, Admin and Manager.
- 1Click Print on the prescription. This opens
/app/clinic/prescriptions/<id>/print. - 2Check the preview. It shows your logo, branch address and contact details, the vet's name and designation, the patient and owner details, weight, diagnosis, the list of medicines, advice, follow-up date and a signature line.
- 3Click Print. It's sized for A5 paper, and only the prescription is printed, not the app.
Use ← Back to record to return.
Good to know
- Rows without a drug name are ignored. At least one medicine is required.
- The printed vet is the veterinarian on the consultation.
- A prescription follow-up date also appears on the clinic dashboard as "Prescription review".
- Choosing a pharmacy product links it to the prescription line. Stock isn't deducted automatically.
