How tax and invoice totals are calculated
Where the tax label and rate come from, prices with or without tax, and the order discounts, coupons, tax and tips are applied in.

FurKisses works out every invoice line by line, then adds the lines up. The same maths runs on invoices and on the point-of-sale screen.
Where the tax settings live
Go to Settings → Business profile (/app/settings/business), section Region & tax:
- Tax label is the name printed everywhere, such as GST, VAT or Sales tax. It defaults to GST.
- Default tax rate % applies to any service or product without its own rate. It defaults to 18%.
- My prices already include tax tells FurKisses whether your prices are tax-inclusive.
- We're registered for GST (show it on invoices) prints your registration number and titles the printout "Tax Invoice".
A product can have its own rate, set in the product's GST rate (%) field (the field uses your tax label). Leave it blank to use the default. Packages work the same way, with a rate field in the package form. Custom lines use the rate you type, or the default if you leave it blank.
The order of operations
For each line:
- 1Gross = quantity × unit price.
- 2The line discount comes off. It's a flat amount and can't exceed the line.
- 3The coupon is shared across all lines in proportion to their value after line discounts.
- 4Tax is worked out on what's left.
- 5The tip is added to the invoice total at the end. Tips are never taxed or discounted.
Prices without tax (the default)
Tax is added on top. A 1,000 service at 18% gives 180 tax and a 1,180 line total.
Prices including tax
The tax is calculated backwards out of the price. A 1,180 service at 18% stays 1,180, with 1,000 as the taxable value and 180 as tax. The summary marks tax as "(incl.)".
Coupons come off before tax
For example, an invoice has a 600 groom and a 400 bath, with a 10% coupon. The 100 coupon is split 60 / 40, so tax is worked out on 540 and 360.
The tax breakdown
Each invoice page has a GST breakdown card (named after your tax label) that groups lines by rate and shows Taxable value and tax for each rate. The printed invoice has the same table.
In India, when your business is registered for GST, the table also splits each rate's tax into CGST and SGST, half each (for example 18% shows as 9% + 9%). This is the intra-state split. FurKisses doesn't produce IGST for inter-state supplies.
The printed invoice shows an HSN/SAC column: the product's HSN / tax code, or the service's SAC code, when one is set.
Who can do this
Changing Business profile settings: Owner and Admin only.
Good to know
- Amounts are rounded to 2 decimals on each line.
- Changing a rate or switching inclusive/exclusive only affects new invoices. Saved invoices keep their numbers.
- See creating coupons for how minimum bill amounts are checked.
